Putnam is located in southern Dewey County at 35°51′23″N 98°58′7″W / 35.85639°N 98.96861°W / 35.85639; -98.96861 (35.856334, -98.968550). Via US 183 it is 13 miles (21 km) north to Taloga, the county seat, and 22 miles (35 km) to Seiling. To the south on 183, it is 23 miles (37 km) to Clinton.
