Kwethluk (/ˈkwiːθlʊk/ KWEETH-luuk; Central Yupik: Kuiggluk) is a city in Bethel Census Area in the U.S. state of Alaska. At the 2010 census the population was 721, up from 713 in 2000.

Geography

Kwethluk is located at 60°48′8″N 161°25′7″W / 60.80222°N 161.41861°W / 60.80222; -161.41861 (60.802332, -161.418556). It lies at the confluence of the Kuskokwim and Kwethluk rivers in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.[1] The constantly changing channel gives the village its name: Kwethluk is derived from the Yupik kuik, meaning “river”, plus -rrluk, meaning “bad, unnatural”.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.7 square miles (30 km), of which, 10.0 square miles (26 km) of it is land and 1.7 square miles (4.4 km) of it (14.76%) is water.
