Coquille /koʊˈkiːl/ is a city in, and the county seat of, Coos County, Oregon, United States. The population was 4,015 at the 2020 census. The primary economic base is the timber industry. The city derives its name from the Coquille Native American tribe.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.80 square miles (7.25 km), of which 2.76 square miles (7.15 km) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km) is water.

Coquille is bordered by the Coquille River which drains part of the Coastal Range into the Pacific Ocean at Bandon.

According to the Köppen climate classification, Coquille has a warm-summer Mediterrean climate (Csb). The record high temperature is 107 °F (42 °C), set on August 15, 2020. The record low temperature is 8 °F (−13.3 °C), set on December 22, 1990. There an average of 1.4 afternoons with a temperature of at least 90 °F (32.2 °C) per year. Conversely, there are 37.6 mornings with a temperature of 32 °F (0.0 °C) or lower.
