History

The town grew around the Ouachita River Lock and Dam, completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1916. It was incorporated in 1921 and named Calion after the first three letters of Calhoun County and the final three letters of Union County.

Geography

Calion is located at 33°19′34″N 92°32′19″W / 33.32611°N 92.53861°W / 33.32611; -92.53861 (33.326096, -92.538666).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km), of which 1.0 square mile (2.6 km) is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km) (20.77%) is water.
