Winthrop is located in northwestern Little River County at 33°49′51″N 94°21′16″W / 33.83083°N 94.35444°W / 33.83083; -94.35444 (33.830750, -94.354330). It is 20 miles (32 km) northwest of Ashdown, the county seat, and 7 miles (11 km) east of the Oklahoma border.
