Belmont occupies the northwest corner of Lafayette County and is bordered to the north by Iowa County and to the west by Grant County. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 41.0 square miles (106.3 km), of which 0.1 square miles (0.3 km), or 0.25%, are water.
