Formerly a country town 10 miles (16 km) west of Bakersfield, it is now surrounded by suburban housing and currently has the highest household income in Kern County, according to Census estimates.

History

Rosedale was founded in 1891 as a colony of English farmers. A post office operated at Rosedale from 1891 to 1913.
