Geography
Palmetto Estates is located 15 miles (24 km) southwest of downtown Miami at 25°37′11″N 80°21′42″W / 25.61972°N 80.36167°W / 25.61972; -80.36167 (25.619782, -80.361752). It is bordered to the east by the village of Palmetto Bay. It is otherwise bordered by unincorporated communities: Kendal and Richmond Heights to the north, and West Perrine to the south. The western border is the Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike. U.S. Route 1 (Dixie Highway) runs along the eastern border.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 8.44 square miles (21.9 km), of which 8.29 square miles (21.5 km) are land and 0.16 square miles (0.41 km), or 1.89%, are water.
