History
A post office called Farmer was established in 1890, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1992. The town was incorporated in 1920. A majority of the early settlers being farmers caused the name to be selected. Farmer is home to Saint Peter’s Grotto. The grotto was built between 1926 and 1933 by Fr. Peter N. Scheier and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
