History

A variant name of Bainbridge was “Bissells”. A post office called “Bissels” was established in 1826, and remained in operation until 1906. Bainbridge derives its name from the naval hero of the War of 1812, Commodore William Bainbridge.

Geography

Bainbridge is located in southwestern Geauga County at 41°23′44″N 81°20′8″W / 41.39556°N 81.33556°W / 41.39556; -81.33556 (41.395654, -81.335550), at the center of Bainbridge Township. U.S. Route 422, a four-lane expressway, passes through the center of the CDP, leading east 31 miles (50 km) to Warren and west 25 miles (40 km) to downtown Cleveland. Access to US 422 is from Ohio State Route 306 in the center of Bainbridge; 306 leads north 9 miles (14 km) to Chesterland and south 5 miles (8 km) to Aurora.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the Bainbridge CDP has a total area of 3.5 square miles (9.0 km), of which 3.4 square miles (8.8 km) is land and 0.077 square miles (0.2 km), or 2.09%, is water.
