History
Dalton was platted in 1882 by Ole C. Dahl, and named for him. A post office has been in operation at Dalton since 1882. Dalton was incorporated in 1905.
2020 Tornado
On July 8, 2020, areas south and east of Dalton were struck by a violent EF4 tornado that significantly damaged or destroyed three farmsteads. There was one death, and two injuries.
