History

Spicer was platted in 1886, and named for John M. Spicer, the original owner of the town site. A post office has been in operation at Spicer since 1886.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.15 square miles (2.98 km), of which 1.14 square miles (2.95 km) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km) is water. Minnesota State Highway 23 serves as a main route in the city, and U.S. Route 71 is nearby.
