History

A post office called Salix has been in operation since 1874. The city was named from the grove willows (or salix) near the original town site.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.53 square miles (3.96 km), of which 1.52 square miles (3.94 km) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km) is water. Salix is located on the floodplain of the Missouri River, near Interstate 29. Brown’s Lake/Bigelow County Park and Snyder Bend County Park are nearby.
