History

Guilford was founded about 1856. The community was named in commemoration of the Battle of Guilford Court House in the American Revolutionary War. A post office called Guilford has been in operation since 1856.

Geography

The community is located at the intersection of Missouri routes M and AH approximately one half mile east of the Platte River and three miles north of the Nodaway-Andrew county line. The community of Barnard is 4.5 miles to the west on route M.

According to the United States Census Bureau, Guilford has a total area of 0.09 square miles (0.23 km), all land.
