History

Hurdland was platted in 1872 when the railroad was extended to that point.

The community was named after John Hurd, the original owner of the town site. A post office has been in operation at Hurdland since 1872.

Geography

The community is located on Missouri Route 6 approximately 6.5 miles west of Edina and four miles east of Brashear in adjacent Adair County.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.33 square miles (0.85 km), all land.
