Geography

Sawyerville is located in southeastern Macoupin County at 39°4′41″N 89°48′23″W / 39.07806°N 89.80639°W / 39.07806; -89.80639 (39.078047, -89.806263). It is bordered to the north by the city of Benld. Illinois Route 4 passes through the west side of the village, leading north 3.5 miles (5.6 km) to Gillespie and south 5 miles (8 km) to Staunton, while Illinois Route 138 passes through the east side of the village, leading north to its terminus in Benld and east 2.5 miles (4.0 km) to Interstate 55 at White City.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Sawyerville has a total area of 1.00 square mile (2.6 km), of which 0.99 square miles (2.6 km) are land and 0.014 square miles (0.036 km), or 1.40%, are water. An unnamed stream forming a 50-foot-deep (15.2 m) ravine splits the village into a small eastern section and larger western section. The village is part of the Cahokia Creek watershed leading southwest to the Mississippi River.
