History

A post office called Meta has been in operation since 1903. The community has the name of Meta Schreifer, the sister of a railroad official.

Geography

Meta is located in the southwestern corner of Osage County at the intersection of Missouri routes 133 and B, on the north bank of Sugar Creek, approximately 3.5 miles southeast of that stream’s confluence with the Osage River.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.35 square miles (0.91 km), all land.
