History

Richards was laid out and platted in 1891 when the railroad was extended to that point. The village’s name honors Joseph Harvey Richards, a railroad official. A post office has been in operation at Richards since 1890.

Geography

Richards is located on Missouri Route H. Stotesbury is approximately four miles to the north via Missouri Route Z and Nevada is eleven miles to the southeast. The Missouri-Kansas border is three miles to the west.
