Norwood is located 8 miles (13 km) east of downtown Louisville at 38°15′07″N 85°36′45″W / 38.251871°N 85.612567°W / 38.251871; -85.612567. It is bordered to the west by St. Matthews, to the north and east by Lyndon, and otherwise by consolidated Louisville/Jefferson County. U.S. Route 60 (Shelbyville Road) forms the southern boundary of Norwood.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.12 square miles (0.30 km), all land.
