History

Rochester was founded by A. B. Carothers in 1906 as the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway was built in the area. It takes its name from Rochester, New York.

Geography

Rochester is in northwestern Haskell County along Texas State Highway 6, which leads north 7 miles (11 km) to Knox City and south 9 miles (14 km) to Rule. Haskell, the county seat, is 15 miles (24 km) to the southeast. According to the United States Census Bureau, Rochester has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.9 km), all of it land.
