Geography

South Mountain is located in east-central Coryell County at 31°26′6″N 97°40′36″W / 31.43500°N 97.67667°W / 31.43500; -97.67667 (31.435056, –97.676587), along U.S. Route 84. It is 4 miles (6 km) east of the center of Gatesville and 16 miles (26 km) west of McGregor.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town of South Mountain has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.2 km), all of it land.
