Americas Map

The Americas is a unique continent located in the Western Hemisphere, stretching from the extreme North to the extreme South of the Earth. The northernmost point is Cape Murchison (71°59’N) in Canada, the southernmost point is Cape Froward (53°54’S) in Chile, the westernmost point is Cape Prince of Wales (168°04’W) in Alaska, USA, and the easternmost point is Cape Branco (34°50’W) in Brazil.

The Americas is the only continent that includes two landmasses: North America and South America. These two continents are connected by the Central American isthmus. With a total area of 42,422,000 km2, the Americas is the second-largest continent in the world after Asia.

Located between two major oceans, the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean, the Americas is somewhat isolated from other continents and was only discovered by humans relatively recently.

Physical Map of the Americas

The western terrain of the Americas is dominated by the American Cordillera, with the Andes range running along the western coast of South America and the Rocky Mountains along with other North American Cordillera ranges running along the western part of North America.

The 2,300 km (1,429 mile) long Appalachian Mountains run along the eastern coast of North America from Alabama to Newfoundland. North of the Appalachians, the Arctic Cordillera runs along the eastern coast of Canada.
